Nine Years, Five of Them at GDUK: What I’ve Learned Quoting Doors for a Living
14.09.2026
Sunday 6th September marked five years since I joined GDUK Door Solutions. Nine years in this industry altogether, if you count the four I spent at Gilgen before it and a four-year gap in between where I pulled pints and did office temping, which is its own kind of relevant experience when you spend your days on the phone with people who just want a straight answer.
My job title is Sales Administrator/Estimator, which sounds like it’s all spreadsheets. It isn’t. Most of my day is quoting new door and trade orders, and answering the phone and inbox for anything to do with parts, new doors, or service agreements. If you’ve ever emailed GDUK asking “can you spec this door for X” or “do you have this part in stock,” there’s a decent chance you’ve spoken to me.
The bit I actually enjoy
If you ask what I enjoy most, it’s liaising, talking to customers through new doors, through trade parts, through whatever they’ve called about. I
Every quote that turns into an order still feels like a win, five years in. I’m not going to pretend I have one standout project I’m proudest of because I’m proud of the ordinary ones too. That’s most of the job, and I like that about it.
Why I think GDUK is different
If you asked me what sets GDUK apart from other suppliers in this space, my honest answer is the people.
Outside of quoting doors
I lost half my hearing to an illness when I was 19, which is probably the most interesting fact about me and not one people guess. Outside work I’m usually walking in the Peak District or the Derbyshire Dales, or seeing family and friends.
I’m an early bird, a tea drinker, and if you ask about football I’ll tell you about Derby County whether you asked for details or not. If I could have one superpower at work, it’d be invisibility purely so I could get through my inbox without being interrupted.
If you’ve got a doorset that needs specifying, a trade part you’re chasing, or a service agreement question, you’re welcome to get in touch — there’s a good chance it’ll land with me.
